Introducing Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP)
Are you aware of new legislation for your label requirements?
As a user of chemicals on a daily basis, you may be aware of the up coming changes to Classification, Labelling and Packaging which takes a noticeable effect from 1st December 2010. (European Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on Classification, Labelling & Packaging of Substances and Mixtures).
Brenntag UK & Ireland is entirely committed to meeting the requirements of CLP, and we will do so in close cooperation with all of our business partners. As your supplier we want to ensure that you are aware of this legislative change, and are ready to incorporate the requirements of CLP into your organisation.
These changes include:
- A complete new system of hazard classification
- New labels & new Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
- New pictograms
- Risk phrases are changing to hazard statements
- Deadline for chemical substances is December 1st 2010
- Deadline for chemical mixtures is 1st June 2015
We are encouraging our customers to consider:
- Staff training to prevent accidents and incidents
- The possible impact on COSHH and Risk Assessments
- COMAH liability if you store large volumes of hazardous chemicals
- Responsible care – ensuring your customers are aware of the changes
Please be aware that your specific obligations under CLP depend upon your role in the supply chain and there are extra responsibilities for manufacturers and importers.
