Brenntag can offer a whole range of products used in the agricultural industry, which range from general products such as formaldehyde, to more specific products with more demanding requirements, such as animal feed.

 

In agriculture, animal feed plays an important part in the food chain as the foodstuff that is used specifically to feed domesticated livestock, therefore it has implications for the composition and quality of the livestock products that people consume – such as milk, meat and eggs.

 

Concerns over what we are consuming has led to supermarkets driving the need for higher quality standards in the safe supply of animal feed, delivering the right grade of material all through the supply chain. This is where the FEMAS scheme was developed. FEMAS – Feed Materials Assurance Scheme, provides the assurance of feed ingredients required by the compound feed industry and farm assurance schemes. Although FEMAS is not a legislative requirement, the scheme has been based on HACCP principles, an internationally recognised system of hazard analysis, which has become a central requirement of Food and Feed safety legislation.

Brenntag’s commitment to high quality standards is our advantage. We have achieved full FEMAS accreditation at both our Belfast and Widnes sites; combined this makes Brenntag the only general chemicals distributor with approved sites in both the UK and Ireland to be registered with a FEMAS scheme, allowing us to take the lead in this market and be the number one distributor of choice for animal feed ingredients.
