UK’s leading chemical distributor launches REACh Use Alignment System

Brenntag UK & Ireland, part of the Brenntag Group, the market leader in bulk and packaged chemical distribution, has launched one of the first REACh Use Alignment systems, from today.

Why?

According to the REACh regulation Article 37-2, every Downstream User has the right to make his use of a chemical substance known to his supplier with the aim of making it an identified use. Provided this is done at the latest 12 months before the registration deadline, the Manufacturer/Importer has to take the use into account for inclusion in the Chemical Safety Assessment (CSA).

Under the new European Legislation - Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals (REACh), CSAs must be carried out and that cannot be done without knowing how chemicals are used in the market place. As a responsible distributor of chemicals in the middle of the supply chain, we could not allow the possibility that we could fail to transfer information between our customers and our suppliers; therefore we have developed and invested in this system to allow all in our supply chain to meet their own obligations and rights under the legislation.

Benefits to our business partners

The system we have developed allows our customers to easily notify us of their chemical uses in just a few clicks through a secure web link that clearly lists all the chemicals that they purchase from Brenntag UK & Ireland.

The system will also benefit our suppliers as it allows us to provide them with the vast range of uses in the market place and allow them to continue sales into those markets. The format is designed to be flexible so it will fit with the CSA tools, which are still being developed by ECHA.

Who is affected?

Virtually everyone, located in the EU, involved in the supply chain dealing with chemical substances will have certain obligations with regards to REACh, from manufacturers and importers of chemical substances or mixtures of chemical substances, to downstream users processing chemicals, formulating preparations (mixtures) to end-use or using formulated products as part of their business.

When it comes to chemicals, very few companies can claim to have the skill, expertise and facilities that customers of Brenntag UK & Ireland benefit from everyday. This new system that we have developed, enables us to continue to provide a first-class service to both customers and suppliers alike, and shows that we are committed to ensuring that all of our business partners are able to meet and adhere to REACh's still-changing legislation. We are confident that this approach will secure a maximum number of uses for our suppliers and our customers.
