Brenntag UK & Ireland opens new facility in Fforestfach, Swansea. Global Company Invests in Local Economy. Grand Opening of New Facility by Andrew Davies AM
Brenntag UK & Ireland, the UK’s market leader in full-line chemical distribution, held a grand opening of its new facility in Fforestfach, having outgrown its previous site at Landore. The ribbon was cut by Andrew Davies, Assembly Member for Swansea West, on Friday 11th June 2010.
The 50,000 sq ft, purpose-built depot opened for business on 24 May with new warehousing supporting increased storage areas for packed product, as well as bulk storage, dilution and packaging facilities. The warehouse also incorporates a dedicated area for food, pharmaceuticals and personal care ingredients.
“These sectors are very important to the Welsh economy,” said Brenntag’s Managing Director, Clare Waters. “And with its improved capabilities at this site, Brenntag UK & Ireland is in a strong position to support further growth in these markets.”
“The new site has improved transport links compared to the old one,” says Gareth Jones, General Manager of the Swansea Depot. “We are now much better placed to supply not only South and Mid Wales, and the Forest of Dean, but the rest of West Wales as well. We are well positioned to expand.” Also provided are new and modern offices for the onsite staff.
The new building has achieved a BREEAM score of 63.7 per cent, which translates into a BREEAM rating of Very Good. BREEAM (Building Research Establishment’s Environmental Assessment Method) is the world’s leading and most widely used environmental assessment method for buildings. It sets the standard for best practice in sustainable design and has become the de facto measure used to describe a building’s environmental performance.
