Brenntag UK & Ireland to distribute Toluene on behalf of Essar Oil UK

Brenntag UK & Ireland is to distribute Toluene on behalf of Essar Oil UK through Essar’s newly acquired refinery at Stanlow, starting on 1st January 2012.

 

Toluene is widely used as an octane booster in petrol, as a chemical intermediate by various industries including pharmaceuticals and as a solvent in manufacturing processes.

 

Steve Heathcote, commercial director for solvents for Brenntag UK and Ireland, said: “Having previously distributed Toluene from this site on behalf of Shell, this is a great opportunity to support the continuation of manufacturing in the UK.”

 

Volker Schultz, chief executive officer of Essar Oil UK, said: “We see significant potential for the Toluene market in the UK and we have the necessary flexibility at Stanlow to increase production from our current levels if we see economic value.”

 

The Stanlow refinery, the UK’s second biggest, was acquired by Essar Energy through its wholly owned subsidiary Essar Oil UK on August 1 from Shell.  Stanlow is capable of producing enough Toluene to meet the UK’s non-fuel related Toluene demand.
